NATIONAL LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

This year the NLC has been changed to the NLE, a virtual conference and competiton for FBLA National.

COMPETITORS - PLEASE READ EMAIL FROM GA FBLA:

In the emails I sent to you a couple of weeks ago about the national submissions, I stated that your students could edit the presentations.  This is what was originally told to us, BUT Nationals has now changed their mind when they published the digital submission guidelines (https://fbla-nlc.org/competitive-events/digital-submission-guidelines/) and now the videos now CANNOT be edited.  Please make sure your competitors know about this important change.

Here is what I recommend:

  • For the individual      events or events where students can get together, have them project their      “powerpoints” on a television and the competitors stand nearby.
  • For the team events      where the competitors cannot get together to present, then film using a      video conference sharing the screen with their presentation.  Then,      position the boxes of the students presenting next to the screen.  Do      not put the people on top of the presentation where they are covering up      things on the slides.  Try to make the boxes of each presenter as      large as possible maybe to the right of the slides.
  • Students MUST be in      professional dress for NLC videos.  They do NOT have to be in      official dress (patches/ties/scarves) but do need to meet the national      dress code (https://fbla-nlc.org/dress-code/)
  • The students are      supposed to film their official take and submit that and not refilm if      they make a mistake.  Therefore, I would highly recommend the      students practice filming first to check things like audio, lighting,      slides not being covered up by the presenters, no background noises, etc.       They can rehearse and practice filming as much as they want.  But      when they’re ready to compete, that is the film they need to submit.
  • Students will NOT be      able to submit additional items for the judges to view so everything they      want to show the judges needs to be included in their video.
  • For the speaking events,      the students should be filmed as they move around, not just sitting in      front of a webcam/camera.
  • Students may use a real      camera for NLC.  Nothing in the digital guidelines says they are      limited to use cell phones or webcams.
  • In watching many of the      videos, the students were clearly reading the presentation from their      monitors.  They should still know this presentation “without notes”      and the viewer should not be able to see that they are reading the script      (eye movement gives it away).
  • PLEASE MAKE SURE      STUDENTS STUDY THE PERFORMANCE RATING SHEETS AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE      DESCRIBING EVERY ITEM.
  • Please make sure anyone      with the URL can easily view the video without having to request      permission or login to view (for things stored on Google).

Also, I need to submit all of the entries by the 29th.  And hearing that it takes about 15 minutes per entry, I really need to get these video no later than the 28th.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  Look for another email from me on the process for registering for NLC.

Thanks

Monty
